The language courses are separate from the religion courses, but the school is very flexible about meeting your individual needs, so if you want to focus on religious language I am sure they will be accomodating.
The classrooms are segregated and most people have private lessons. When I was there a few years ago men and women did meet outside together but many women were completely covered and we didn't interact.
If you are British the visa process is easy. Just arrive at the airport. The application process is quick and painless.
The neighborhood is full of mosques. I remember three that we only a few minutes from the apartment.
Good luck this summer.

Hi

I am interested in coming over from the UK to do one of the 9 week courses which are running over the summer. Can someone please answer the following questions for me.

What is a typical day like in terms of timetables etc..
Are the Islamic studies part of the actual courses or is that separate thing which I would have to pay for?
Are there any mosque's close by?
Is there segregated areas for brothers and sisters or is it mixed?
and finally How long is the process of applying, getting the visa's ad everything sorted?

Regards

In the last few weeks Yemen has been all over the news and there are new concerns over the country. I was wondering if anyone knew if there are any new problems with Americans obtaining visas or if Sanaa was still a relatively safe place to be with all the uncertainty. My hope is to come to SIAL this summer but I may start looking at other safer places. Thanks.

Are there any major celebrations planned for the anniversary of unification in May?  If so, is that likely to have any impact on the schedule of classes or on student life in any way?

It is easy to buy fresh vegetables near the school. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby. Most people get around in vans. They aren't too expensive and leave near the school.

What's a likely cost for food expenses for a person who's cooking for themselves in the school housing (not going out to eat often)?  And what's the main form of transportation around the city, and how expensive is it?  (In other words, how much will it cost to buy my weekly groceries and transport them home?)
Thanks!
